Key

luxe_10years, originally uploaded by Laura Bee Seattle.

We're celebrating one decade of our retail store this year, and I'm preparing for our big party on November 3rd. I'm still deciding on the postcard, window display, and other marketing details. I thought this image was apt, as the anniversary is a celebration of our customers, who are the key to our business. The ten year mark also unlocks our future.

Restocking Our Vintage Button Collection

I went to a button sale last week and found some treasures to incorporate into future bags. I was drawn to this batch of gold buttons because they have open areas that will allow the fabric behind them to show through.

Chocolate Button and Chocolate Truffles

I must be hungry, this button reminds me of a truffle.

I love naming colors after food. We have saffron lining, sugar cookie faux leather, and chocolate microsuede.

(Did I tell you we're selling delicious truffles by locally crafted Dilettante chocolates in our shop? They make great hostess gifts.)

Button Thursday: Woodland Birdie

Tiny Bird Button, originally uploaded by Laura Bee Seattle.

I've been going through my stash of extra-special buttons and brooches that I've saved throughout the year. I will use some of the best goodies on our Glam For Good collection for our November 7th party.

In looking through the notions, I found this little bird button that is so sweet and pretty. I think she'll look lovely atop a silk wristlet.

Button Thursday: What Happened to the 6th?

One thing I enjoy about collecting vintage buttons is the interesting graphic design that is encapsulated on old packaging.

I love the simplicity of this coated white card with aqua text that is half-way between script and individual letters, as though it is handwriting tossed off by a hip '60s designer.

Also, I wonder who bought these cherry red buttons back in the day, and what did she do with the one missing button?

Button Thursday: Pink + Blossom

I've been working on some new microsuede blossoms and topped off this espresso and ivory number with a little rose pink vintage button.

Button Thursday: Unabashedly Girly Button

This button reminds me of an outfit Betty Draper might wear to a chic Manhattan restaurant.

(I'm posting this picture a little early because Ashley and I will be walking the Seattle Gift Show tomorrow searching for new goods to offer this fall.)

Button Thursday: Golden Flowers

I can't show you the clutch that features this button as the gift has yet to be given to the lucky bridesmaid.

I couldn't resist showing you the beautiful button and a glimpse of the fabrics.

Button Thursday: Multi-color Ornate Plastic

Once upon a time, thrifty people kept even the most humble buttons. As blouses, jackets and dresses wore out, women trimmed off the fasteners and saved them in jars, drawers, and cookie tins.

Here's a mishmash of pretty plastic buttons that I bought at an antique mall recently. Someone stitched each button onto a piece of cardboard with waxed twine, saving the little treasures for rainy days.

How I wish I could know what garments the buttons adorned, who wore the clothes, and where the outfits traveled.

Button Thursday: Vintage Packaging

Butterscotch Buttons, originally uploaded by Laura Bee Seattle.

The graphic design on this package is just as interesting as the golden buttons.

Button Thursday: White Plastic Ripples

Tacoma Buttons, originally uploaded by Laura Bee Seattle.

Does anyone know anything about the Tacoma Button Company? A cursory web search didn't bring up much information.
